  • Sponsor Interview: Top Notch Themes

    What does TopNotchThemes do?
TopNotchThemes was the first exclusive premium Drupal theme store, and that's what we do today! We continue to push the envelope with Drupal themes, creating designs with a ton of flexibility and functionality so new Drupal users can get an all-in-one package, and developers can get a great looking site up in no time.

You guys are known as one of the premier design resources in Drupal, What are some of Drupal’s strengths from a design standpoint that have led you to rely on it for your work?
The challenge with theming generically for Drupal is that anything can be modified anywhere by other modules, multiplied by countless settings. You have no idea which comment setting is going to be used, or what's going to be in a node, or where it's going to be displayed. But out of this challenge comes a mindset in the Drupal community of playing nice -- modules must work together well. In many other CMSes, you tend to have either the theme doing it's own thing, or other add-ons stomping all over each other. From a design standpoint, this forces us to think in a very modular, top-down approach, which allows us to create themes that are extremely adaptable.

There are rumors of a new product line coming from TNT, can you tell us anything about it?
We've been working on something new that encapsulates what we've learned from our customers and the community over past 16 months of running TopNotchThemes. We'll be sharing a sneak preview at DrupalCamp Colorado, but I can tell you this much so far -- it involves not only a new approach for Drupal and a sexy new website of themes, but a much-needed resource for Drupal developers and designers.

What are you most looking forward to at DrupalCamp Colorado?
As always, connecting with the Drupal community is a huge part of our life and success. In particular we are very glad that the camp is teamed up with the Ubercart crew. We're excited to be presenting two sessions that we are passionate about!

  • Sponsor Interview: Growing Venture Solutions, LLC

What does your shop do and how do you work with Drupal?

We are a full service website development, support and training company. We also engage with a variety of more technical clients who need our expertise in a specific area - like architecture, module development, security review, or usability analysis - so that they can deliver a higher quality project to their clients. Our goal is to build great sites and have a lot of fun.

How did you first get involved in Drupal development?

For Greg it was because his neighborhood organization needed a new website and he wanted other people to be able to edit it. Drupal seemed like a decent choice for allowing multiple editors. Steve lives in the same neighborhood as Greg and first used Drupal by contributing to that first site Greg built. Ezra got involved with Drupal when he outgrew his Mambo-based personal website - Drupal had all the features he needed. Evelyn is getting involved because the rest of us love her designs and want to get to use them in Drupal.

What type of websites do you specialize in?

We serve many different types of clients, though we try to focus on the publishing industry, higher education/libraries, and e-commerce using Ubercart. These are areas which involve some really fun-to-build advanced needs like importing content, building powerful web applications, single-sign-on, third party integration, and visualization of data using charts and maps. We love working in new areas because it allows us to push the limits of Drupal, or own knowledge, and contribute back the code we develop to the community.

What are you most looking forward to at DrupalCamp Colorado?

We're looking forward to seeing and meeting over 200 people! It's amazing to have so many people coming to Drupal camp. I think the sessions will also be great and I'm sure we'll all learn a lot.
